Overview

The Empty Quarter, or Rub Al Khali, has high sand dunes that may reach 250 m or more.

Ubar is the lost city of legend. The myth says the desert swallowed it up and it disappeared without trace, like Atlantis but in the sand. It was buried under the sands and spotted only by satellite.

This full-day trip takes you from Salalah across the Qara Mountains and the Nejd area of Dhofar, with a stop at the Bedouin settlement of Thumrait.

Your day

Pickup from anywhere in Salalah.

Drive through the Qara Mountains and onto the Nejd area of Dhofar, with its majestic sand dunes.

Make a brief stop at Thumrait, a Bedouin settlement.

Drive on to the great Empty Quarter (Rub Al Khali), where the sand dunes may reach 250 m or more.

Stop for lunch at Thumrait. Lunch is not included.

On the way back to Salalah, pass the frankincense trees.

Return to your hotel.
