Overview
Nizwa was the old capital of Oman. It has one of the largest traditional markets in the country, and a fortress that is now a museum.
This day trip pairs Nizwa with two old villages: Al Hamra, with its traditional homes, and Misfath al Abreen, a picturesque village on a steep slope of Jebel Shams.

Pickup from anywhere in Muscat.
Drive to Nizwa, the old capital of Oman, with one of the largest traditional markets in the country. Many vendors lay out their goods in the streets: fish, meat, vegetables, pottery, jewellery, handicrafts and souvenirs not found anywhere else.
On Fridays, sellers from nearby villages come to the market to sell chickens, donkeys, sheep, goats and cattle in a circus-style market.
Tour Nizwa Fort, now a museum, with great views of the town and its mountains. Walk through its many towers, passages and rooms as you wish. Its architecture shows how strong the economy and the military once were.
Drive to Al Hamra to see the traditional homes of its old village.
Visit Misfath al Abreen, a picturesque village on a steep slope of Jebel Shams. Explore its old homes, walk its narrow streets and see its large falaj, the system that supplies its water.
Drive back to Muscat and your hotel.
