Overview

This two-day trip takes you from Muscat to Wadi Bani Khaled and the Wahiba Sands Desert.

Wadi Bani Khaled is the famous wadi of the Sharqiah region. All year round, water flows from a natural spring at its top, feeding the abundant vegetation that makes it such a beautiful spot, and forms a series of magnificent deep pools at its narrow end.

In the Wahiba Sands, with dunes up to 300 feet high, you watch the sunset from a big dune, spend the night at a desert camp and meet a Bedouin family in their home.

1. Day 1

   Wadi Bani Khaled and the Wahiba Sands

   Leave Muscat for the beautiful oasis of Wadi Bani Khaled, one of Oman's well-known wadis and the famous wadi of the Sharqiah region. All year round, water flows from a natural spring at the top of the wadi and feeds the abundant vegetation that makes it such a beautiful spot.

   People head for the source of this water, which forms a series of magnificent deep pools at the narrow end of the wadi, and for Moqal Cave.

   There is a small restaurant at the wadi entrance where you can have lunch.

   In the late afternoon, continue to your desert camp in the Wahiba Sands. The Wahiba Sands have the most spectacular, enormous dunes in the north-east, up to 300 feet high, and your guide shows you how experienced they are at handling them.

   Watch the stunning desert sunset from the top of one of the big dunes.

   The camp serves dinner. Relax around the campfire. Overnight in the desert camp. Lunch and dinner are optional.

2. Day 2

   Wadi Bani Khaled, the Wahiba Sands and back to Muscat

   After breakfast, continue to Wadi Bani Khaled, one of the biggest and most beautiful wadis in Oman, and enjoy a refreshing swim in its cool water.

   Drive on to the Wahiba Sands to experience a true desert, almost a sea of constantly shifting sands. Drive through the dunes, enjoy 4x4 dune bashing and ride camels.

   Visit a local Bedouin family in their home for a close look at their way of life, and share coffee and dates with them.

   Return to Muscat in the late afternoon. Lunch is optional.
