Panoramica
Jebel Shams, at 3,000 metres the highest peak in Oman, gives a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon of Oman and of Wadi Nakhr.
This private 4WD trip takes you there from Muscat via Nizwa, the ancient capital, and Ghul, an old village with abandoned Persian ruins. You meet a local weaver near the rim, and stop at Misfat on the way back.

Pickup from anywhere in Muscat.
Drive past Fanjah and Izki to Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman, and take a walk there.
Drive to Ghul, an old village with abandoned Persian ruins.
Continue to the Grand Canyon, with its spectacular views.
At the end of the valley, see the village of brightly coloured rugs and designs.
From here you can reach Jebel Shams, at 3,000 metres the highest peak in Oman, for a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon and of Wadi Nakhr.
Have lunch near the rim (lunch is not included), then visit the local weaver and haggle for their wares.
Stop at Misfat on the way back.
Return to Muscat and your hotel.
