Resumen

This two-day trip takes you from Muscat into the interior and on to the Sharqiyah region.

Nizwa, the capital of the interior and the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate of Oman, is known for its 17th-century Round Tower Fort and its souq, with a Friday cattle auction, hand-carved khanjars (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery. Jabrin, one of Oman's finest castles, built in the late 17th century, became a seat of Omani learning and is known for its painted ceilings and woodcarvings.

In the Sharqiyah region, Wadi Bani Khaled is an evergreen wadi where cascading water forms a turquoise-green pool, and the Wahiba Sands are one of Oman's most fascinating and mysterious regions, with dunes that support an astonishing variety of plants and animals.

1. Día 1

   Nizwa, Jabrin and the Wahiba Sands

   Drive to Nizwa, the capital of the interior and the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate of Oman. See its famous Round Tower Fort, built in the 17th century, and its souq, known for its Friday cattle auction, intricately hand-carved khanjars (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery.

   Visit Jabrin, one of Oman's finest castles, built in the late 17th century. It became a seat of Omani learning, and shows Omani ceiling painting at its highest, with beautifully executed woodcarvings.

   Then head to the Sharqiyah region to visit Wadi Bani Khaled, an evergreen wadi where cascading water forms a turquoise-green pool, ideal for swimming.

   Continue to the Wahiba Sands, one of Oman's most fascinating and mysterious regions. The dunes support an astonishing variety of plants and animals, and their ever-changing patterns are a photographer's delight. You can ride camels, try dune driving and visit Bedouin villages.

   In the evening, enjoy the campfire and dinner. Overnight in the Wahiba Sands. Lunch is optional.

2. Día 2

   Wadi Bani Khaled and back to Muscat

   After breakfast, go on to the beautiful oasis of Wadi Bani Khaled, the famous wadi of the Sharqiyah region. All year round, water flows from a natural spring at the top of the wadi and feeds the abundant vegetation that makes it such a beautiful spot.

   People head for the source of this water, which forms a series of magnificent deep pools at the narrow end of the wadi, and for Maqal Cave.

   Enjoy an easy walk along the riverbed, with free time to enjoy the cool of the rock pools scattered around.

   Drive back to Muscat. Lunch is optional.
