East of Salalah, the ruins of Sumhurum (Khor Rori) are a UNESCO World Heritage site. The city was the easternmost outpost of the Kingdom of Hadramawt, on the ancient incense route between the Persian Gulf, India and the Mediterranean Sea. It was an important port on the coast of Dhofar, one of the biggest frankincense trading cities, and the hub and harbour for frankincense shipping. Here is the palace of the Queen of Sheba.

This half-day tour also takes you to the old village of Taqa and its castle, to Mirbat, famous for its Arabian horses, and to Ain Razat in the Qara Mountains.

On the way to Taqa, pass the Marmura house and the Royal Farm.

In Taqa village, see the traditional old houses in Dhofari style.

Visit Taqa Castle, in the past the official residence of the governor of Taqa village. Your guide tells you about its rich history.

Further east, explore the ruins of Sumhurum (Khor Rori), a UNESCO World Heritage site and once the hub and harbour for frankincense shipping. Here is the palace of the Queen of Sheba.

Drive along the coastal road to the old city of Mirbat, famous for its Arabian horses and its history of slave trading.

Stop for photos at Bin Ali tomb, 800 years old.

Take a look at the old merchant houses at Mirbat Castle.

Before the tour ends, visit Ain Razat, a place of great natural beauty among the hills of the Qara Mountains.

Return to your hotel.
